Chance of a lifetime

Many of the players on the WSU basketball team are tall. One is particularly so. I have long desired to stand next to him to see just how tall he is. Lisa, her brother, and I went to watch basketball practice today. The last home game of the season is on Saturday and then the seniors will graduate. I mistakenly thought the very tall player was graduating, and the thought that I would never have the opportunity to ask again, gave me to courage to request a picture with him. Thankfully, Lisa takes her camera everywhere with her.

It made my day and I was so happy to get what I've wanted for some time. I couldn't stop smiling I was so pleased. I also got to shake hands with Tony Bennet.

Once I returned to the newsroom, I realized he is only a junior and not graduating. He did not correct me though, which was kind of him.

The Chemistry Gods

The Divine Forces are working against me today.

Reason 1: Earlier this week I found out that today's hockey game was cancelled. I was totally bummed because I've only been to one and we had a whole group of people planning on going too. Plus the game was supposed to be a way for me to break up my studying. Nope.

Reason 2: I was also supposed to play in a soccer game today at 4:00. However, I found out a few minutes ago that the game was rescheduled for 11:00. I have been talking about how excited I am for this game for two weeks! Therefore, all of my special plans for the day have been cancelled.

Reason 3: Josh Groban fell on me this morning. I have this giant poster of him on the wall next to my bed. I woke up this morning at exactly 10:00. I looked at the clock then rolled back over and decided to sleep for a few more minutes and try to finish the weird dream I had been having (I'll spare you the details). Then the poster un-sticky-tacked itself from the wall and fell on me. I think this was a sign for me to get up. Did I follow the sign? Nope. I stuck the poster back to the wall and fell back asleep.

Reason 4: I wanted to meet Kyndra for dinner around 6:15. However, the bus was 15 minutes late and therefore dinner ended while I was on the bus.

Reason 5: I wanted to go to the pool after dinner, but because the bus was late and the pool closes at 7:00...no pool.

Are the forces working for me or against me? I'm expecting my computer to crash at any momen-

First Home Football Game

At least 90 percent of the campus is wearing red. It's amazing and in some ways, creepy. That's Cougar devotion. At least 5 percent of the remaining 10 percent is sporting grey. As I said, I am amazed.

Softball

So unless there is a sudden monsoon between now and 6:10(I hope I didn't just jinx it), softball is a go for tonight! I can't describe my happiness...even though it is our last game.

Softball Game Update

Officially cancelled.

I don't mind the rain, unless it's Wednesday. My whole week has been ruined.

Rain,Rain Go Away

I must play softball today! (That almost works)

It makes me think of the Elvis song "I Feel So Bad"

"I feel so bad
Feels like a ball game on a rainy day
I feel so bad
Feels like a ball game on a rainy day
Yes I got my rain check
Shake my head and walk away"

I hope we don't get a rain check, because then my favorite day of the week will be ruined.

Beavers Win College World Series AGAIN!

Yes, it's true! The Beavers won the college series two years in a row! It makes me so proud even though I'm transferring. The best play of the game: the tag out home in the 7th. Beauty.

100 Laps

I swam 2500 yards today. That equals 100 laps or lengths if you prefer. A standard lap pool (not Olympia size) is 25 yards across. I count 25 yards as one lap. Many people however, consider a lap two be 50 yards (down and back). Anyways here is my workout for today:
  • 4x100 - 3+1 (three laps freestyle + one lap not freestyle) 15 seconds rest between each
  • 2x100 - kick one lap freestyle one lap other - 10 sec rest between each
  • 300 easy - 45 sec rest
  • 300 hard - 1:30 rest
  • 200 easy - 40 sec rest
  • 200 hard - 1:00 rest
  • 100 easy - 30 sec rest
  • 100 hard - 40 sec rest
  • 6x50 - easy/med, med/hard, hard/easy repeat - 15 sec rest between (I think)
  • 50 easy
  • 6x25 - breakouts (halfway fast/halfway easy)
  • 200 easy

Total: 2500 yards

Usually I only do 1000 but for some reason this past week I've felt like I need to kick it up a notch and a half.

NOTE: Men, if you decide you want to go to the pool DO NOT wear swim trunks that are any shade of pastel. Especially pink, yellow, or WHITE! It's gross. I don't care who you are...it's gross. Also, unless you are built like a Greek god, if you are over 35 DO NOT wear a Speedo. It's also gross. It's really bad when you decide that you have to stand at the edge of the pool while I am in it, because in case you didn't realize I am not eye to eye with you! Get it? If you feel like you have to wear pastel trunks or a Speedo wear both! Put the Speedo on first then the trunks. Double up. Yuck yuck yuck. What in the world would make you think that yellow swim trunks wouldn't be see through? Dark colors only!

King Felix & The Vladiator

Even though he's a great pitcher, Felix Hernandez looks like a wanna be gangsta when he's on the mound. His uniform is three sizes too big, he's got two or three chains of bling around his neck, and his hat is always tilted to the side. He just looks silly. His over sized uniform makes him look sloppy, and don't those long chains get in the way? He's only 21 and already an awesome major league pitcher, but I think he spends too much time trying to look cool. What's the deal? But who am I to say how a professional baseball player should dress? Whatever, I guess as long as he gets the job done who cares.

Vladimir Guerrero scares me. He's a beast. Actually he's a "warrior," that's what his name means in Spanish. I think it's interesting that he's from the Dominican Republic but his first name is Vladimir. Interesante, ¿no?

Chicken Parmagiani Season Ends 3-2

Today was the final game of the season for my intramural softball team. It has been so much fun and now I get to go home and play for the Biohazards! I've been playing in the out field (left-center) this season, which has been weird because I'm used to playing Catcher, 2nd and Shortstop. I would rate my performance in the outfield as a 7.4 maybe a 7.6. Today I got to play catcher and it was like coming home (pardon the pun). I didn't have my knee pads though so my knees are a little junky. The sun was positioned perfectly in my eyes, but luckily the batters stood in the way...most of the time...darn lefties.

Play of the day went to Mike, who technically hit a single but thanks to some speedy running and bad throws he made it a triple. In fact, he ran so fast that he pulled third base clean out of the ground and slid with it for a few feet. My play of the day was when I hit a clean line drive right between the 3rd baseman and shortstop with 2 outs. I got an RBI and the outfielder in his haste to throw out my team member running home, over threw it and it went right past the catcher. Now, normally this would mean nothing other than an RBI, but in intramural we play on grass with no backstop, so overthrowing past the catcher means an automatic double for the batter! YAY! Unless I was the one to throw it, then no yay. I also scored two batters later, which was of course awesome! Rallies are awesome.

My almost play of the day was while I was catching. One of my teammates was throwing home, but I couldn't see anyone other than our pitcher because of the sun. I yelled at her to catch it because I couldn't see, but it was too late so I tried to get in front of it (where ever that was) to keep it from going past me and causing an automatic double. I ended up halfway stopping it. It hit me in the shoulder and rolled away. At least I stopped it. My teammate who had thrown it in felt really bad and told me he would call it next time. He asked me if I was okay. I said I was fine. I didn't remember that I got hit.

End result: WE WON!
